FAQ

Q. How do I retrieve my username?
A
. Retrieve your username using the Retrieve Username page.

Q. How do I retrieve a forgotten password?
A.
For your security, passwords are encrypted and cannot be retrieved. If you have forgotten your password, you can have it automatically reset and a new one sent to your email address using the Reset Password page.

Q. How do I activate my account if I cannot access or have lost my activation link?
A.
Enter the email address you used when signing up on the Resend Activation page. A new email will be sent to that email account. Access your email inbox and click on the activation link, then log in to your new SFWU Profile.

Q. How do I return to my Dashboard?
A.
The easiest way to return to the Dashboard is to click on your Username in the upper right-hand corner of each page. You can also click the small arrow to the right of your Username, then select My Dashboard from the drop-down menu.

Q. How do I change my username and/or password?
A.
Click on your username in the upper right-hand corner of the site, to the right of the SFWU logo. This takes you to your Dashboard. Using the menu on the right, click on My Account, below Manage. Use the form to make your changes, then be sure to click SAVE CHANGES.

Q. How do I become an SFWU Expert?
A.
If you have professional services to share with the SFWU community, simply sign up and go to your Profile page. On the right, below your photo and location, click YES under "Pro Services to Share?" then save your Profile changes. When you log back in, your Profile will reflect your Pro status and give you additional steps to complete. For the next few weeks, the option to become an SFWU Expert will be available to all members without screening by our staff. We do reserve the right, however, to remove members from SFWU Experts should the need arise.

Q. How do I download the classes I've selected or purchased?
A. When you select or purchase an mp3 class on our site, your mp3s are immediately linked in your Dashboard for your convenience. You can return to listen to them online 24/7, and you may download them to your own computer if you wish. Please bear in mind that browsers seem to behave differently, and you may need to experiment to find the correct download method for your browser. For example, on a Mac, most browsers play mp3s online when you click "Download." To save the file to your own computer, you need to hold down the OPTION key while you click "Download."

Q. What are tags?
A.
Tags are one-word descriptors that you can assign to your blogs, pictures, and clippings. Tags are also keywords you choose to help organize your stuff on this site. You can assign as many tags as you like and rename or delete them later.

Q. How do I add images, Mp3s and Videos?
A
. You can add images or media to your profile and your blog posts by using the image and media buttons in your profile text editor. To embed a video in your entry, click on the Media image at the top of your in-line editor (left) to launch the Media popup. Enter the URL of a video hosted at YouTube or elsewhere, set the dimensions you prefer for your video display (we recommend 425 x 344 pixels maximum) and click the INSERT button. Most media will work fine with the FLASH setting on the popup select menu, but choose another format as needed. If you get really ambitious, feel free to fill in the "Advanced" tab of the popup, as well. To embed a music or sound file in your entry, click on the Media image to launch the Media popup. Enter the URL of the file, set the width dimension you prefer for your player (we recommend 350 pixels maximum) and click the INSERT button. Please note that videos hosted at YouTube do not remain available indefinitely. Nobody likes broken links, so you will want to check your entries frequently.

Q. What about copyrights?
A.
Great question! As writers and members of the publishing community, we need to be especially careful about respecting intellectual property and copyright rules. Always be sure you are not infringing on any copyrights when you add text, images or media to an entry. You can find solid definitions of copyrights on various web dictionaries and wikis, and we urge you read such definitions before you post entries here. Wikipedia is the main one we use.

Q. How can I help keep SFWU a safe and civil space?
A.
Our administrators and moderators cannot be everywhere at once, and objectionable elements may appear on our site from time to time. If you see content or behavior you believe is inappropriate or violates our Terms of Use, please email us to report it immediately.

Q. What is good SFWU etiquette?
A.
Always post your entry, review, comment, or question to the most appropriate place. User contributions deemed to be in the wrong place may be moved. In Discussions or elsewhere on the site, please do not cross-post the same question to multiple places. Remember to thank those who help you. Acknowledgement of a helpful suggestion or comment not only shows appreciation for whomever helped you, it may also help others with a similar problem. We encourage you to actively help others as often as possible. Please always treat others you encounter here just as you would treat them in person. Kindness and polite behavior are hallmarks of a good community, and rude or thoughtless behavior toward others will not be tolerated.
