I started this fantastic place of learning, but have since left to start my own hybrid literary agency: FOREWORD LITERARY, INC. I handle adult genre fiction (romance, fantasy, science fiction, horror, mysteries, thrillers, suspense, westerns) and children's middle-grade and young adult books.
I love reading eBooks on my iPad (given to me by a grateful client!) as much as I like a mass market or trade paperback. The mash-up of technology and publishing has me giddy. I spent 25 years in high tech marketing and publicity prior to becoming an agent, and boy do I see convergence opportunities everywhere. This university is one of them.
So join me as we celebrate all types of writing and learning here at San Francisco Writers University, where writers meet and YOU learn!

I was in your November 17th Self-Publishing 101 class at Kepler's Books in Menlo Park. The class was great! I remember hoping that it would be short on the personal joys of writing and publishing and very long on facts, figures and ideas. The class absolutely filled that bill and I went away feeling very encouraged. If I see it offered again, I'll recommend it to anyone I know. You and Carla King make a great teaching team.
Just ready your blog 'Gloomy But True?' Wow! I have a really hard time thinking that books as books might be in jeopardy thanks to the advent of e-readers. And it doesn't really seem like the prices for new books on my wife's Nook color are that much below regular retail. Sure, there are a lot of cheap books out there--but to get the new Lauren Willig that's coming out soon, I imagine I'll be paying almost regular retail.
So what does this trend do to the agents? And how does it ultimately impact those of us who are desperately trying to get our books through the 'gatekeepers' (y'all agents) and into the hands of the publishers (be they the Big Six, or Amazon, or a small press...)?

I read your excerpt and it rocks. Had me hooked. Couldn't wait to see what the cursed item would do to her.

The demons? They dwell in all of us. They watch us from our shadows. They ride us—oh, yes, they do—whispering in our ears, tempting us with our own darkness. In the end, many succumb. And you?
