About Me

My day job is as an owner of a small business with locations all over Michigan, but I've always loved writing. Currently working on two projects, one in re-write, one in first edit, both in contemporary lit leaning toward an audience of women. (NOT chick-lit, I was told!) One is rather fun and upbeat, and the other is a serious look at a life twisted by deceit. I also have another work in various states of disrepair. It was going to be chick-lit, then a YA story developed out of it, then I decided to combine the stories into one book. I'm out of my mind...

Before I took the plunge into novel writing, I have written online in various forums, including Associated Content (now the Yahoo Contributor page) and Blog Critics.

This being said, while I believe my writing is strong, it could use work, and that's why I'm here. I'm unschooled (sort of) and know where my deficiencies are, I'm just unable to put them into technical terms.

Hello Joanne, With the little I have read about your profile, I believe you can bring yourself with the help of others to be a good writer. If you can be prudent in managing your business, I see no reason why you can not as well bring about successful ideas from your fortune of knowledge and turn them into inspiring books. Please keep your Pen flowing and keep that believe that your writings are strong.

Dear Joanne:

Many thanks for your kind comment. Glad you're finding the blog helpful. Please write or call with questions. Best of luck with your book!

Joanne, thanks for friending...and good luck with your newly combined book!

Now: owning a small business with locations all over the state is likely more than just a "day job," because who could own a business and not take it home with them, even until just before dinner? What kind of business is it? Am curious how it's contributed to your creativity and stories....

Thank you for friending me! We have one big thing in common! Self employment is self employment, whatever product or service you sell. I had a big turning point about my writing at the point I finished my first novel. It hit me that once it's done - it's the same as selling my art or cutting mats for other artists or typesetting other people's resumes.

Life interfered and I didn't give it the marketing it deserved. Looking at it now, I write a lot better. I'm not pushing it now because it needs a rewrite, big time. But even in its ugly first novel stage with minimal publicity due to life circumstances, it paid out six times over what I invested in it. To me that bodes well.

I'm thrilled to be here and looking forward to everything - the forums, the classes, the connections. I needed a good writing site to hang out at!

Thank you for the friend request -- I am looking forward to getting to know the writers and to exploring this site :)

Thank you very much for the friend invitation. I look forward to learning more about you and SFWriters U.

Congratulations! I was stunned when I found out. :-)

Hey - I just noticed that you are a finalist in the adult category!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!! I am also listed in the children's category. It was a surprise to me as I have made major edits since I submitted.

OK - see you then. Ha - you're an early bird like me!

No, afraid I won't be there. :-( But I'll be at the conference on Friday. See you then.
